Contents counts at Reebok and Harvard

LYRICS UNDO DEALS FOR 50 CENT;
SNOOP: Reebok scraps 50 campaign;
Harvard rescinds Snoop invite.
*The folks at Reebok and Harvard
University have bowed to pressure put
on by groups who have protested recent
deals with controversial rappers.
Reebok’s much-hyped ad campaign
in the UK starring 50 Cent and his nine
gunshot wounds was canceled following
the roar of anti-violence group Mothers
Against Guns. The commercial, part
of Reebok's "I Am What I Am" campaign,
features the G-Unit leader counting to
nine, in reference to the nine bullet
holes in his body.
The spot was initially defended
by the company, which said that "it
references what he has had to overcome
to reach his global iconic status," but
Mothers Against Guns founder Lucy
Cope argued the ad "glamorizes gun
crime. My son died of one bullet.
50 Cent is very lucky to be shot
nine times and survive."
Meanwhile, Harvard University's
Undergraduate Council had invited
Snoop Dogg to perform on campus
next month, but decided to pull the
after some students voiced objections
to his love of all things pimp.
CBS reports that a number of
students on the Ivy League campus
had issues with such pimp-friendly
songs as "Can You Control Yo Hoe,"
a ditty from Snoop’s latest CD "R&G
(Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece."
The song includes the line "If she won't
do what you say, why aren't you
slapping her?"
However, a short statement by
the Harvard University's Undergraduate
Council makes no mention of Snoop’s
lyrics as the culprit. It attributes the
dis-invitation to financial considerations
and unavoidable obstacles.
