Ying Yang pull WPGC DC string
Are the Ying Yand Twins & WPGC Next to Come Underfire?
On the heels of the racist episode that played out on New York's Hot 97, there are a growing number of people in the nation's capitol Washinton DC who are getting unearthed about a new song that is proudly being played on the number one station in the market WPGC 95.5 which is home to the legendary Donnie Simpson. The song is called 'Wait' by the Ying Yang Twins and its about as explicit and pornographic as you can get, leaving very little to the imagination. At a time when there has been nationwide coverage about the campaign launched by Essence Magazine to 'Take Back the Music' where a whooping 72% of their readership demanded that corporate broadcasters be more responsible, it appears that WPGC may have gotten a different message. The question being asked is 'Who is responsible for playing this song? Why are they presenting this type of pornographic material? Where do they draw the line? Are there other stations in the DC area airing the same song? These are the hard investigative questions ardent rap critics like Stanley Crouch, Clarence Paige and Bill O'Reilly to name a few need to be asking. They should use their airtime to bring this issue to light unless they are following the example of fellow rap critic Armstrong Williams and getting economic perks to remain silent and look away. These questions need NOT be asked to the Ying Yang Twins. It's obvious that the music they made is for an adult audience that can responsibly handle x rated material. The group has a right to make whatever song they feel works for their audience. More importantly this Atlanta based group did not walk into WPGC radio station, put a gun to the heads of the executives at Infinity and demand that they play the song. It is obvious that there were a group of 'responsible' broadcast executives that made a calculated decision to present this to the masses and left very few channels open to debate or discuss the concerns of the community. It is obvious that a decisoion was made to play this song at a time when a lot of young people would be listening. Sadly they appear to following the trend of many corporate broadcast mediums and are not listing the names of the program and music directors for the public to see, nor are they publishing a playlist that reflects the actual songs that are being played on the air. Is it enough to say that wroking parents need to somehow find a way to keep their kids from watching or listening to something explicit when it's being made so accesible? Here are some numbers for people to use 301-918-0955 is for WPGC and their headquarters in New York is 212-846-3939Here's the email that is circulating around DCHey guys,Have you heard the new Ying Yang song called, "Wait" or the real title... "Wait till you see my dick" song? Well it's been #3 on the WPGC (Wash. DC) countdown for at least the last couple days... THE BEAT is tight, but I couldn't understand the lyrics entirely, but knew when I heard the moaning and groaning there was more to the song, so I ask you ... Does a song still have the same meaning when you hear the edited version on the radio? We all know some words aren't even really edited... what's the difference between BIA - TCH and Bitch? Or B? check out the lyrics to WAIT... this is what programmers/broadcasters think of our community...its ok to promote this to OUR 12 + HOLLAL==========================================
